We are committed to helping employees of member organizations and their families get – and stay – healthy. That means helping employees understand how their health benefits work, make informed choices, and use their benefits appropriately.
Important Updates for 2013
The RCAB Health Plan has launched a new Wellness Program starting on October 1, 2012 which provides financial incentives for completion of various activities to employees enrolled in the health plan. See the Focus on Wellness page for more information.
The RCAB Health Plan covers many locations with less than 20 employees, considered by Medicare to be “small employers.” For these locations, employees age 65 and older will have their health care costs covered first by Medicare and second by the RCAB Health Plan. The Benefits Office will contact employees and spouses who qualify for the Medicare small employer exception to explain the enrollment process.

Grandfathered Medical Plan under Health Care Reform
The Archdiocese of Boston Health Benefit Trust believes that its Health Plan, as administered by Tufts Total Health Plan, is a “grandfathered health plan” under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. As permitted by the Affordable Care Act, a grandfathered health plan can preserve certain basic health coverage that was already in effect when that law was enacted.
Being a grandfathered health plan means that your Health Plan may not include certain consumer protections of the Affordable Care Act that apply to other plans; for example, the requirement for the provision of preventive health services without any cost sharing. However, grandfathered health plans must comply with certain other consumer protections in the Affordable Care Act; for example, the elimination of lifetime limits on benefits.
If you have any questions about which features apply and do not apply to a grandfathered health plan, contact the Benefits Administration Office at (617) 746-5641 or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
You may also contact the Employee Benefits Security Administration, U.S. Department of Labor at 1-866-444-3272 or www.dol.gov/ebsa/healthreform. This website has a table summarizing which protections do and do not apply to grandfathered health plans.
Summary of Benefits Coverage
Federal law requires that we deliver the Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC), which describes the features of the RCAB Health Plan, administered by Tufts Health Plan.
