The Archdiocese of Boston created the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) in the mid-1990s to help address the lack of access to the Massachusetts state unemployment insurance program applicable to many Catholic employers in the Boston area. TAP benefits are modeled on the Massachusetts unemployment insurance program as outlined in the attached Summary. Employees of Archdiocese parishes, schools, cemeteries, and the Pastoral Center with at least one year of service and working 1,000+ hours per year are eligible for TAP benefits. Employees of other Catholic entities should check with their local benefits/payroll administrator to confirm enrollment in the TAP program or the Massachusetts state unemployment insurance program. Eligible employers pay monthly premiums to cover the cost of benefits. The TAP program is provided at no cost to employees.
